I was lead artist on Iron Initiative, part of a suite of mobile tools for fans of tabletop RPGs. I was given a chance to design the UI and UX of a TTRPG system agnostic initiative tracker. It needed to be very modular; in my many years of gaming rarely has any tabletop experience been the same as another, even in the same system.
I did extensive research into TTRPG systems and approaches that others have taken toward tracking initiatives. I was fortunate to have access to not just a cavalcade of players but to experts in tabletop play. This allowed me to generate a great range of precise player personas and journeys.
The resulting wireframes and mockups were beloved by both players and experts. The project reached an initial testing phase that was smooth and robust. The extensive user research paid off in a beautifully modular design.
